If you’re reading this, THANK YOU and…I’m sorry! I have never considered myself a “writer”, but it turns out when you become a photographer, you also become a blogger???? So, here goes nothing!
Hi! I’m Peggy Dunn. I won’t bore you with a blog about my whole life story (see the “meet Peggy” section on my website), but I will tell you a few tidbits about me so you can get an idea of how I got here.
I am a Physical Education teacher at a middle school in Stafford, Virginia. This will be my fourth year teaching and as of one hour ago I’ve just finished my first week teaching P.E. virtually.
*insert alll the wine memes here*
How did I get here?!
During my five month hiatus of spring break and summer break, I discovered a passion that I wanted to take more seriously.
Photography.
So, how does one turn a hobby into a business? Here is my timeline of events thus far.
Peggy Dunn Photography Timeline:
December 2015– Received my first DSLR for Christmas (thanks Mom!)
October 2019-Bought my first lens (it took me way too long to figure out this was a necessity)
December 2019– Started an online photography course to learn all the basics of photography
May 2020– Took my first photoshoot that wasn’t a friend or family member
July 2020– Started watching hundreds of free webinars, youtube channels, and blogs made by the top photographers in the biz…and I’m talking hundreds!!!
August 2020– Began my business and branding journey! Starting a business is NO joke. I will be writing a blog post in the future about all the things I did to prepare for my business launch, so be on the look out for that!
September 2020– Wrote my first blog!!! YAY! Here we are! Oh and did you notice that most of the real work started AFTER my hiatus was essentially over? Great timing Peggy!
I can’t wait to see what this timeline looks like a year from now!
Give me the deets!
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I just checked the spelling of deets expecting it not to be a word, but it IS in fact in the dictionary according to dictionary.com.
Okay, so here’s the deal.
I am a portrait photographer that specializes in senior portraits. Knowing that I am a teacher and coach, it’s pretty obvious that I would find the most joy in photographing seniors.
There’s a few things I love most about photographing seniors:
- The excitement I see in their eyes because they are right on the edge of starting a new chapter in their life & we all remember that feeling!
- Seeing their confidence go from zero to one hundred from the time I start shooting to the time I end.
- Seeing their reaction after I deliver the images. There’s something about making someone feel so beautiful & happy that makes me fill up with complete bliss.
I am so excited to start promoting not only senior portraits, but my very own senior rep program!!! Honestly, I really didn’t expect to “specialize” in any kind of portrait photography, but after watching those hundreds of webinars and YouTube videos, I discovered senior rep programs and LOVED the idea.
If you’re a senior or know someone that is a senior, check out my senior rep page here!
“I’m not a senior but I like professional photos too!”
Don’t worry, like I said, I am a portrait photographer. This means I shoot: couples, proposals, families, maternity portraits, etc.
Let’s be honest, I will hardly say no if it means I get to use my camera, however, with being a teacher my shoots book up fast!
I have never felt so excited to start something so new, so scary, and so amazing! It’s one of those things I wish I had started years ago, but I’ve been working so hard to get to this point and share this with you!
If you would like to book a session, fill out the contact info here or e-mail me at peggydunnphoto@gmail.com
I look forward to meeting you!
XOXO Peggy
